Three-Part Working Member Workshop: "Combatants for Peace, Session Two"

Join Weavers Way members Sheila Weinberg and Maynard Seider for PART TWO of their powerful presentation on the work of Combatants for Peace. Learn about their amazing first-hand experience of extraordinary programs that overcome communication barriers and promote conflict resolution through such vehicles as theater, ceremony and joint building projects. In this session, participants will continue watching the acclaimed documentary film "Disturbing the Peace," and will be invited to engage in a moderated discussion. Everyone is Welcome. The third and final session takes place June 27, and includes the sharing of an amazing TedX talk along further facilitated discussion and collaborative re-envisioning of what it means to 'meet with the enemy.'

Sheila Weinberg is a published author who has written widely on such topics as feminism, spiritual direction, parenting, social justice and mindfulness from a Jewish perspective and has contributed commentaries to Kol HaNeshama, the Reconstructionist prayer book. Sheila Weinberg has taught mindfulness meditation and yoga to rabbis, Jewish professionals and lay people in the context of the Institute for Jewish Spirituality. She is a rabbi herself, and serves as a spiritual director to a variety of Jewish clergy including students and faculty at HUC-JIR in New York. She is creator and co-leader of the Jewish Mindfulness Teacher Training Program.

Maynard Seider is a sociologist who has co-led two previous workshops: one, an introduction to neoliberalism, and the other, a discussion of Naomi Klein's book, "This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. the Climate." He is the author of "The Gritty Berkshires: A People's History From the Hoosac Tunnel to MASS MoCA." He volunteers at Houston Elementary School and is a member of Germantown Jewish Centre.
