Weavers Way Wellness Workshop: Bee Healthy! Understanding (and Tasting!) Honey, Bee Pollen, Propolis and Royal Jelly

Wednesday, August 16, 2017 - 7:00pm to 8:30pm

This hands-on workshop will introduce you to the delicious and medicinal products that come from the honeybee hive, including a varietal honey tasting, recipes for healthful bee-kissed creations, and more!

You will learn how and why honey, pollen, propolis and royal jelly are produced by the bees, some of their uses throughout history, and their amazing medicinal and nutritional properties. Together we will explore how the bees carry the benefits of the flowers and herbs from which they collect nectar back to their hives to create amazing medicinal honey varietals such as manuka honey from the New Zealand Tea Tree and others.

The workshop will include a tasting of local and varietal bee products, the opportunity to purchase these products at a discount, and a hands-on project where all workshop participants will make and taste a medicinal honey syrup together.

The workshop will be led by Weavers Way Program Coordinator Stephanie, who is also a local beekeeper and author. Stephanie is passionate about plant medicine, bees and the products of the honeybee hive. In her apiary at the West Laurel Hill Cemetery in Bala Cynwyd, she harvests honey, collects wax, and observes, learns and teaches about bees and bee behavior.
