Weavers Way Wellness Workshop: Feeling a January Chill? Warm up with Mindfulness Practices!

Sunday, January 21, 2018 - 2:00pm to 3:30pm

Please join us Sunday, Jan. 21, from 2-3:30 p.m., for an experiential exploration together with a brief panel discussion of mindfulness. We will examine how deepening the mind-body connection relates to overall well being.

Mindfulness is about paying attention to what we are sensing, feeling and thinking in the present moment — a practice that has profound benefits for physical, emotional and mental health.

We invite Weavers Way members to explore mindfulness with a brief experiential introduction to three related modalities:

  • Joanne Fagerstrom, PT, CFP, will introduce The Feldenkrais Method, a body-centered approach to learning that draws on the brain's unique ability to reorganize itself, and therefore change habitual patterns of behavior. She will guide you through a gentle movement sequence while lying on the floor to help you discover where you may be holding unnecessary tension.
  • Rachel Kriger, L.Ac., will introduce Five Element Acupuncture. This nature-based system of medicine focuses on the present moment, which is in a constant state of change and transformation. Rachel will teach you how this practice can enhance your immune system and change your relationship with symptoms.
  • Esther Wyss-Flamm, PhD, E-RYT, will introduce a simple opening Kripalu Yoga sequence that invites the body to move in harmony with breath and mind. Developing awareness of ways to align movement with breath supports mindfulness in everyday life.

The session will be moderated by Marvin Berman, PhD, integrative neuroscience researcher and president, Quietmind Foundation. Marvin is also expert in biofeedback, a modality that promotes and sharpens attention on our internal experience of the present moment.

FREE, REGISTRATION REQUIRED. REGISTER HERE.

This panel is organized by The Weavers Way Health & Wellness Committee. The WWHWC is dedicated to exploring and educating the co-op community on a wide variety of health resources and modalities. The committee includes, but is not limited to, professional practitioners of both conventional and natural or alternative disciplines, and welcomes anyone interested in physical, mental, spiritual and collective well-being.

Weavers Way workshops include presentations, hands-on classes, book studies, film screenings and discussions. Most are free and open to the public. Weavers Way members who lead workshops get three hours of work credit — what a great way to earn, or maintain, your Working Member status for 5% off all your purchases!
